I’m looking for a place close to the LIRR with a good neighborhood, close to shopping, restaurants, etc. I’m kinda familiar with Mineola, but not much else on Long Island. We will be a late 20’s couple and I am getting a job in Manhattan. Lived in nyc for over a year and want more space and maybe a yard for my dog.

I’ll be commuting to my new job in Englewood, NJ from Queens, NY. How long can I expect the drive to be?

My research has shown that the “estimated times” on mapquest are entirely off. I’ll be driving over the Triboro Bridge, down the Major Deegan Expy, merging onto 95 and then going over the George Washington to Rte 4.

How can I find NYC commuting/transportation routes? Any good websites?

bradpee asked:

I’ve used Mapquest.com a lot to find my driving directions.
But now I will be in NYC. I don’t drive there. I guess I will be using public transportation a lot. Are there good websites help find a good commuting route via public transportations such as subway, etc.? Do they calculate commuting time based on public transportation data? For example, if I find using mapquest that from point A to point B in NYC is about 8 minutes driving, how can I convert it into a commuting time that is based on walking on foot, and subway, and possibly bus, etc.?
Thanks a lot and have a great weekend!
Thanks a lot NYers for your warm help!
I wanna to be a little bit more specific: I am not physically in NYC yet and I am seeking a summer house. Thus the commuting route/time is directly related to where do I live and how do I make choices.

So I really need a website that designs a good public transportation routes and calculates the commuting time(not the driving time, since I don’t drive in NYC). I am going to probably run this for 100+ potential addresses in the process of looking for a place to live.

Currently the Google maps linked in the Craigslist is great — but it just does not provide commuting time; it displays driving time. Let’s say I found a house that is 10 driving minutes away from my workplace, does that mean the average commuting time is 10 minutes via walking on foot and public transportations? Most probably not… that’s why the commuting route/time is very important for me…

Thanks a ton!!!
dasa2337 — thanks for your answer.

I am a little confused about Hopstop; did you say that their estimated times are much LONGER or SMALLER than it actually takes for a person to commute from point A to point B?

Thanks again!

I’m taking my daughter and her friend to tryouts at American Ballet Theatre’s JKO School. We’re planning on flying into Newark and staying at the Newark Airport Howard Johnson hotel. Could someone give me some pointers on our mass-transit options for commuting into Manhattan, specifically to 890 Broadway?
thanks!

I am really trying my luck here to see if anyone happens to be familiar with the following two places:

I want to find out how long is the commuting time between the two places:

Address A: 528 RIVERSIDE DR, Manhattan, New York City
Address B: 258 PARK AVE, Manhattan, New York City, near the Grand Central Terminal Station.

The following computer generated routes gives an estimate of about 44 minutes, and some wise men advised me that I should add 10 minutes or more to it just to be safe.

http://www.hopstop.com/?advanced=y&mode_switched=y&submitted=on&city1=newyork&city2=newyork&county1=36061&address1=528%20RIVERSIDE%20DR&county2=36061&address2=258%20PARK%20AVE&day=1&time=28800&mode=s&language=en&transfer_priority=1

So I am guessing it will be 1 hour.

I need your opinion … What do you think is the estimated commuting time?

Thanks a lot!
Hi NYC Chutzpah,

Thanks for your answer. So how many minutes in total? And what if the train does not come right away? What’s the average waiting time? We need to estimate the worst case, best case and average case, right?
Thanks again!

What’s the commuting time from Newark Airport to Union Square or the Grand Central Terminal Station?

bradpee asked:

Hi all,

I am weighing between two airports: the Kennedy and Newark airports. My destination is the Union Square or Grand Central Terminal station. The flights to Kennedy are now at a record high price at over $900, while the flights to Newark Airport are around $400-$500.

Suppose I take taxi after arriving to the airports. Which airport is more time-saving and trouble-free in terms of transportation? I know from Kennedy to Manhattan is around 1.15 hours, how about from Newark?

Thanks a lot!
