Sarah asked:

We are looking for the best, cleanest, most expensive suburb outside of Atlanta. What towns or neighborhoods would you suggest? Please also say what the commute is like from there (how long it takes exactly).
ACTUALLY commuting to Chamblee, not downtown Atlanta.

hookeduprides asked:

I am interested in buying a ultralight trike for commuting back and forth to work. I am interested is this a good idea? The reason that i want to buy this trike is because i do not need a flight license and i don’t have to be stuck in traffic everyday to and from work. I live in Massachusetts, and traffic is terrible. I would be commuting about 50-60 miles each way. Is this a good idea, is there any air restrictions? Tell me what you know, and think. Thanks

How to survive commuting to Dallas?

Pseudo Yuppie (only if I must) asked:

OK, so my situaton is that I will be living in the DFW area in a few months. My friend wants me to move in with her, and I would love to, considering I’ve never lived in a huge city before and it’d be great to not go home to an empty apartment.

The problem is that I have heard horror stories of commuting in Dallas. Evidently the interstate between Fort Worth and Dallas is just a very long parking lot. My friend lives in Grand Prairie, and on Mapquest it doesn’t seem far at all (I’m of course not factoring in traffic). So my question(s), to get to the point:

1.) How long would I be on the road from Grand Prairie to downtown Dallas, assuming I left to arrive at work at 8AM.

2.) Where should I live that would minimize the commute BUT remain affordable ($400 – $750 range; yes that is probably very naive)?

3.) Is Dallas’ light rail system any good?

For figurative bonus points, any suggestions on parts of town that won’t get me shot would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks y’all!

My Big Bear Ron asked:

For me, well, you know that lady dressed in the uniform who stops traffic so the kids can cross the street? I **** that!!! I mean the light is GREEN for me, and she’s got the kids crossing on a RED light. Also, she waits on the slow poke kids who’ve not yet reached the street to cross. She does this and more when there is a line of cars full of drivers wanting to get to work, for crying out loud!!!

Would smaller car pay for itself? Commuting 85 miles a day in a 21 MPG car at $4/gal?

beeper asked:

I would like to keep the car for around town (for my spouse) and was wondering if another car would pay for itself. I can’t afford much in terms of new car payments, etc. It seems to me the cost savings of a higher MPG car would kinda pay for itself? At what point does it make sense?
