Is it true that many companies in the USA might go to a 4-day workweek to save gasoline and commuting travel?

x1800yolk asked:

I am planning on commuting regularly on a mountain bike (the roads where I live are very, very bad) and was wondering if I would have an easier time with 650c wheels or 700c wheels. I know that 700c wheels offer more stability, but will they be easier or harder than the 650c when climbing? Thanks!
EDIT: 26” wheels and 650c wheels are the same thing. 29” wheels and 700c wheels are the same thing (to bike stores..).
I haven’t bought the bike yet, so I was seeing what wheel size I should look for in the bike that I buy. Thank you! That’s already a lot of help.

Why are there fewer commuter-cyclists lately? What are the main thresholds to bike-commuting?

LastGenerationMember asked:

Imho, the bike manufacturers are to blame, and here are my opinions. What’s your two cents?

In my view, bike saddles are uncomfortable and possibly cause the dreaded Male Dysfunction Syndrome. Also, the Shimano fancy gears and shifters wear out in only 1,000 miles and are costly. In comparison, old bikes had gears/chains that lasted 20 years or more.

Open-face bike helmets don’t protect the teeth from impact, and there imho aren’t inexpensive full-face helmets for people who wear glasses, size 63cm, or XXL.

Then, there’s bike theft.

Any other reasons not listed here?

Is an older motorcycle still good for commuting?

DoggyDooDoo asked:

After visiting craigslist and some dealerships, I pretty much can’t afford anything new withing about 10 years or so. If I want a motorcycle and want to commute in it all the time, how reliable will an older one be? I don’t really have any knowledge or tools, so I wouldn’t be able to do much repairs on my own.

For tax filing, what other means can I show commuting cost without receipt?

petra3481 asked:

I didn’t keep receipts for total commuting costs per month throughout the year (don’t ask why) for traveling to work. The commuting cost is in the hundreds and I would like tax return on this. What other means can I prove this cost? Bank statements? Any suggestions?
In response to everyone’s comments, I would like to add a little more detail to my question. I commute 4 hours a day to work, I buy bus tickets costing almost $400 per month on top of NYC MTA monthly pass costing $81…it’s insane the amount in cost just for traveling alone. So all of this really does not qualify for tax deductible? If not, then I need to seriously move lol.

What is the difference between a pardon and commuting a sentence?

Thank you. I was pretty sure it wasn’t the same thing but have heard a lot of people saying that Libby recieved a pardon but I read his sentence was commuted. Just wanted to make sure I knew what the terms meant.

Is it absurd to consider living in Newport Beach and commuting to Los Angeles everyday?

gazoots asked:

I am considering a move to the Los Angeles area, and Newport Beach seems to appeal to my taste, I just worry about the commute time in to downtown L.A., or West Hollywood everyday, and if it would be feasible. I’m not all that familiar with the lay of the land, so if anyone has any response or suggestions.

What’s the commuting time from Newark Airport to Union Square or the Grand Central Terminal Station?

bradpee asked:

Hi all,

I am weighing between two airports: the Kennedy and Newark airports. My destination is the Union Square or Grand Central Terminal station. The flights to Kennedy are now at a record high price at over $900, while the flights to Newark Airport are around $400-$500.

Suppose I take taxi after arriving to the airports. Which airport is more time-saving and trouble-free in terms of transportation? I know from Kennedy to Manhattan is around 1.15 hours, how about from Newark?

Thanks a lot!
