How could I commute to NYC for the week from Albany and go home for the weekend? I know how to get the train to Grand Central, Is there a way to just get a cheap bed and avoid getting an apartment?

I had rented an apartment while commuting to work. Can I deduct that off of my income tax?
My job was about 2 hours away but since then I have found a job closer. I had rented the apartment for 11 months starting on August of 2005.

What comes under a “long commuting distance” to/from work?
What do you think is a long commute? And how far is your work place from your residence or apartment?
I live around 13 miles from my work , So daily it’s a 26 mile trip to and from .
What is your opinion ? Is my commute bad?

HR/Hiring question: “How do you feel about commuting?”?
I was spoiled in my very first job because I lived about 15-20 minutes away by walking to the job. (It was in a city, so I’m sure driving/parking would have taken about the same amount of time…)
I’ve noticed that now that I’m out in the suburbs, interview places have asked me about commuting. I don’t enjoy rush hour traffic, nor do I like rude drivers. However, I’m grateful that my area has a fairly good and reliable public transportation system.
So far I answer this question by stating that I’m aware of the commute (I had come to the interview, so obviously I’ve just had some experience with it…) and that because I live in the suburbs, I pretty much have to commute. My other option would be to get an apartment in the city, which of course is expensive.
Is this a trick question? (Ie, Can you be on time?) Is there something hiring managers are looking for? Is this just something I should be aware of as a potential downside?

What is a good cheap commuter bike?
I’ve recently decided that I’d like to bike to work. I work about 4 miles from my home, and am wondering if anyone has advice about a decent, affordable commuter bike. Lightweight would also be a plus, since I would like to carry it into my apartment rather than leave it outside for parts to be stolen (even if it’s locked, anything not bolted down goes missing in this neighborhood unfortunately). If it helps, I’m female and 5′2, and have no interest in riding competitively.
